Crumley has a remarkably authentic voice. I think that's the
key to his
success - critical, not financial...His "Dancing Bear" is
not
sufficiently known; the last third of that novel is an
unrelenting,
delirious, and ultraviolent virtuoso performance. Harboiled
doesn't get
much better than that.
I swear that "ultraviolent" was not meant to be a pun. I
guess it's
late.
