Recently Duane asked:
"For those of us without Showtime, can you describe just what
_The Naked
City_ is? Thanks muchly. -- Duane"
*The Naked City* was the title of a 1948 cop film shot on
location in NYC.
It starred Barry Fitzgerald as Det. Lt. Dan Muldoon,
grizzled,
street-smart veteran, and Don Taylor as Det. Jimmy Halloran,
a young,
college-educated rookie. It ended with the tag line "There
are eight
million stories in the Naked City. This has been one of
them." In 1958,
a TV series, also shot on location in NYC, starred John
McIntyre as
Muldoon and James Franciscus (I think this was his first TV
role) as
Halloran. This version was a half-hour. A later, hour-long
version, had
different characters and a different cast. The tag line about
"eight
million stories in the Naked City" was carried over from the
film to both
versions of the TV series. The made-for-cable Showtime
movies, as I
understand it, revive the Muldoon/Halloran team. Scott Glenn
plays
Muldoon. I don't know who plays Halloran. - Jim Doherty
