Re: RARA-AVIS: Recommendation: "Dead Letters" Sean McG

Sun, 22 Nov 1998 23:32:15 -0500 (EST) This talk of the Postal Inspectors reminds me that the National Postal
Museum in DC is currently running (through Nov '99) an exhibit called
Mayhem by Mail about the Postal Inspectors. It's a small display, but
it's got some cool stuff, bombs, forgeries, mail order scams, etc. It's
also got a trunk that some guy would mail himself cross-country in.
This would get him into the cargo hold with the registered mail, which
he would hide in other, empty trunks he had sent along. He was caught
when he failed to secure his hideaway properly and it came open during
unloading. For obvious reasons he was dubbed "Jack-in-the-Box." There
is also a short video about the investigations. So, if you're in DC
during the next year, you might want to go postal.
