RARA-AVIS: Blue Lightening (was John Harvey)

Talking of John Harvey and Mellotone I've been meaning to
post
something about his Slow Dancer Press anthology "Blue
Lightening". I
picked this up its lauch at Dead on Deansgate which,
incidently, was
a great night out - jazz bands and all that. I even got to chat
with
the wonderful Stella Duffy (whom I'd met before) for a good
long
while.
Anyway, "Blue Lightening" features short stories with a
musical
note from: Jeffery Deaver (some unknown guy from America) who's
short
promises good things to come - its excellent. Sallis -
incredible, Our
Stella, Mosley (a new Soc Fortlow story), Harvey, Rankin
(some Scottish guy), Nev Smith (who's legendary film/book
"Gumshoe"
is not only wonderful but also feature my home town and who's
hero
Eddie lives in the falts I used to live in -amazing).
Other writers include o load of people I've never heard
of
such as Charlotte Carter, Rosanne Cash and Kirsty Gunn - so I
haven't
read their stuff. Just when you think this book cannot get ant
better
there are note from writers ar the end which are fun all
by
themselves; Sallis "speakin into the darkness", Harvey on Jazz,
this
Deaver guy on music and NY and other little treats. and Re:
