Second, I would like to propose Dan Kavanagh's _Fiddle City_
as a
monthly reading. I recently re-read this book and found it
even better
than the first time. From its hilarious and astonishing
opening, this is
a virtuoso performance by Julian Barnes, who seems to have
permanently
abandoned his Kavanagh pen-name -- and crime fiction. This
would be
unforgivable if he weren't lighting up the pages of the New
Yorker with
his unusual gift for humor (and, of course, writing the
fine,
unclassifiable books that made his name in the "literary"
world). The
man is good at everything...

MT
