Re: RARA-AVIS: Dora, Derek and lions and tigers and bears oh my

Mon, 09 Nov 1998 07:51:00 -0600 I am going to post this in several pieces so I won't bore you and clog
your mail box. To begin I got all four books out. He Died with His Eyes
Open (c 1984) The Devil's Home on leave (c 1985) How the Dead Live (c
1986) and Dora (c 1990) then I read the first 50 pages (+ or -) of each
to compare the story and style. As an opening comment--Dora does not fit
the pattern. All the others start from the perspective of our "nameless"
detective, but Dora begins through the eyes of the killer (and that
chapter goes on too long). Now, as another comment, does anyone remember
that wonderful (at least to me) TV show from the UK in the 70's or '80's
about The Chinese Detective? (It was gritty and he worked alone became
no one wanted to work with him, and his "beat" was the docklands area of
London) Well, that is who I picture as our "nameless" narrator.
