Oh, not just dead guys. There just seems to be a lot of dead guys (and a
few dead dames) from which to pick.

John Harvey and Russell James are two excellent living Brit writers who get
mentioned here from time to time.

Live from Germany, Jakob Arjouni has a very good series of novels about
Germanized Turk private eye Kemal Kayankaya.

In living color from America, there's Loren Estleman, Bill Pronzini, Andrew
Vacchs, Daniel Woodrell, and George P. Pelecanos.

And this list includes a number of fine writers who modestly mention their
wares from time to time -- Fred Willard and James Reasoner, for example,
among several others.
