RARA-AVIS: Femme Fatale - Singer suggest???

Jeff Lander (jeffl@darwin3d.com)
Mon, 26 Oct 1998 22:54:12 -0800 I have a scene I am creating as a project. It is a Chandler/Max Collins-esque
scene where we first enter a 1929 private speakeasy at off hour. The femme
fatale is on stage practicing a number with a pianist. Mood is sultry and
seductive yet upbeat.

Unlike most fiction, the actual music/song is important to the scene. More
like
a movie then a book. So, I hope this may be an appropriate place to ask.
If it is too off topic, I appologize.

I am thinking along the lines of "I got it bad, and that ain't good"
(Ellington 1941- too late) or "Embraceable You" (Gershwin-1928+).
The character is a Keely Smith type meaning sassy, uses provocative moves,
etc.
She did a perfect duet of these two songs with Louis Prima but I am looking
for
a song/personality more to the period.

Any suggestions. Thanks.

Jeff

BTW: Just finished Paul Cain's "Fast One." Loved it. Highly recommended.
The hero is so frustratingly driven.
