Re: RARA-AVIS: More on 'Dead On Deansgate'....

Thu, 15 Oct 1998 23:57:11 -0500 I am so jealous--this is my kind of program; all my faves. Ian Rankin
was at B'con and stood in the line ahead of us getting coffee at the
lobby cart. He was so kind and friendly--I am really in awe of him
(don't ask--there's not enough band-width in the world to tell you why).
It is so hard for me to remember that Rankin and Harvey are not and
never were coppers; they are such wonderful story-tellers. And I must
only presume the remark
> Guests: Colin Dexter/Ian Rankin/Jeffery Deaver (American Guest of
> Honour - but who is he ?!?)

but who is he? is a joke??? Yes?? Jeff Deaver writes "serial killer"
books like nobody else can do. Suspenseful--he "appeared" at Bouchercon
for a moment and we got the chance to chat a bit about the newest THE
COFFIN DANCER--by the way Lincoln Rhyme is being played on the big
screen by none other than Denzel Washington and (if I could call her
name you'd know her) Amelia Sachs is also a star. His book A MAIDEN'S
DREAM was made into a tv-movie staring James Garner (perfect casting I
might add). Can't wait to see Washington as Rhyme (a C-4 quadraplegic).

> Manchester (Mike Philips).

And Mike Philips I met at B'con in St. Paul--a real gentleman and great
writer.

In case you think I left out Val McDermid, I didn't because everyone
knows how I feel about her books (all three series).

Sorry for the rant, but wish some one in the States (where we could hop
for a week-end) would put on something like this?? Maybe a university
could pick up the tab--this is a rara-avian fantasy convention.

Ah, but Milwaukee is only a two-hour plane ride and same time zone.
Maybe international crime writers could sponsor something like this at
Milwaukee??
