RARA-AVIS: Top Ten HB Works

Thu, 1 Oct 1998 07:48:52 -0400 (EDT) Top Ten lists are so annoyingly reductive. So here's mine (in order, even
though they're all really close in my book). I'm sure I'm leaving some of
my favorite works off bec. my brain isn't working at this hour. Anyway:

The Long Goodbye, Raymond Chandler
The Killer Inside Me, Jim Thompson
The Maltese Falcon, Dashiell Hammett
The Talented Mr. Ripley, Patricia Highsmith
The Postman Always Rings Twice, James M. Cain
Fast One, Paul Cain
Sleep With the Devil, Day Keene
For Love of Imabelle, Chester Himes
The Big Clock, Kenneth Fearing
The Lenient Beast, Fredric Brown

There should be a separate list for individual short stories. Mine would
have to include Hemingway's "The Killers" and Chandler's "Red Wind."
