RARA-AVIS: Re: Arresting behavior

Mark Sullivan (ANONYMEINC@webtv.net)
Mon, 28 Sep 1998 11:37:11 -0400 (EDT) I had a brief conversation yesterday with a drug enforcement agent. He
was wearing a polo shirt with an embroidered badge where the alligator
sometimes goes. I jokingly asked if he wears that when he goes
undercover. He chuckled and replied I'd be surprised what they wore. He
told me that he knew an agent who bought drugs while wearing a Hawaii
Police Department hat. He said the seller was not the brightest offender
they ever busted. He went on to say that he and fellow agents had an
informal contest to see what they could get away with wearing. I said
that they could probably get away with wearing one of those jackets with
FBI or DEA in huge letters on the back, that it would probably be taken
as an amusingly ironic fashion statement in certain circles. No one had
tested it, but he didn't doubt the theory. I guess it all depends how
you accessorize.
