If you can find a copy, read the first novel of an old-time
*Black
Masker* named Thomas Walsh, called *Nightmare in Manhattan*.
It's one
of my all-time favorite cop novels, about a railroad cop in
a place
called Manhattan Depot, involved in a kidnapping case. Then,
after
reading about Manhattan Depot, visit its real-life
counterpart, Grand
Central Station, the largest RR depot in the US, and see if
every nook
and cranny isn't totally familiar from having read the
vook.
*Nightmare in Manhattan* was made into a decent movie called
*Union
Station* w/ William Holden and Barry Fitzgerald, generally
faithful,
but re-set in Chicago. - Jim Doherty
