Well, if it's agreeable with y'all, I'd be more than happy to compile a
list on my site (actually, one of my future topics for the poll was going
to be more or less on this). We could call it The Rara-Avis Favorite Crime
Fiction Books, or something. Of course, I'd plug the hell out of this list,
and everything, and give credit where it's due...but it might be more
appropriate on the Rara-Avis site. It's up to you, Bill....

What a coincidence about The Singing Detective! My local oldies video store
just got acopy, and I was mentioning to someone on this list in a private
e-mail my intention to rent it one rainy weekend, and finally get to see
the whole thing. Which, if my math is right, comes in at about seven hours
(6 tapes at 70 minutes each-at least , part one was 70 minutes). It's in a
very nice boxed set, by the way; jumps right up off the shelf. And don't
worry about this being a musical...nobody's ever going to mistake this for
Cats or some such Andrew Lloyd Weenie dribble....

And the first singing detective was probably Richard Diamond, on American
radio, played by Dick "Murder My Sweet" Powell, who closed each show with a
song....
