Trivia note: *Nothing Lasts Forever* was the sequel to
Thorp's first novel,
*The Detective* which became a pretty decent cop movie in
1968 starring Frank
Sinatra as Joe Leland. When *Nothing Lasts Forever* became a
film, the
Leland character was replaced by the younger, buffer Willis.
