Izzi has been discussed here several times, not with the same
intensity
as other writers, but people are definitely aware of him. I
proposed to
put some Izzi on the reading list, but there weren't any
takers. His
tales are definitely hardboiled, and he seemed to know crooks
and
criminals intimately. While I wouldn't rate him as highly as E.
Richard
Johnson or James Ellroy among writers depicting the wrong side
of the
law, he is an interesting figure who deserves far wider
recognition than
he got in life. Sadly, he may not remain in print long enough
for that
recognition to be possible outside of academic and specialist
circles.
