RARA-AVIS: 4 Novels a Year

As far as multiple novels per year, isn't that frowned upon
in
publishing these days? Seems to me, I've read that they want no
more
than one book a year, lest author split the market for their
books and
have them competing against each other. I think I read Robert
B. Parker
commenting on this, that he could write far more books, but
his
publisher did not want him to, not that he has kept up quality
at the
rate he does write. And isn't that why Stephen King started
putting out
Bachman novels, because it was thought he was putting out books
too
quickly and not allowing each one to sell for its natural
period?
