A fine example of padding is Robert B. Parker's _Paper Doll_. This has
just enough substance for a 20-25 page short story, yet it is padded out
to 223 pages. In this disaster of a book a subplot is presented as
important, then dropped without explanation; Spenser and Susan engage in
some of the most stale and irrelevant dialogue. It's embarrassing.
