I disagree ... Mr. Clark is clearly the hardest-boiled character in print
and Jack Ryan is at least as hard-boiled as Phillip Marlowe ... true, in
the big picture sense Clancy's work doesn't fall in the hard boiled range,
but the actions of his characters do ... but then what is the def for
modern hard-boiled? I hope it's not just Vach's criminals doing good now
and then.
