southeners

Jeez, I hate Southeners.
"Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" is not a - or even the -
great
British crime film - it isn't "The Long Good Friday" and it
definately
isn't "Get Carter". Although technically adept it lacks the
emotional
imvolvement of those - and other - films . Watching it was like
being on a
roller coaster - great fun untill you get off. What it is, is
very
funny indeed - having Vinnie "The Psycho" Jones as an enforcer
for
example. Its enough to turn you to drink. I'm not sure as to
how it
then works to have you watching some very nasty violence right
after -
somehow diminishes the effect. Some great bits in it though -
how many
homages have you spotted? "The Italian Job", spaghetti
westerns,
Tarrantino.
Talking of Vinnie "I'm a sensitive guy" Jones, the cast
is
excellent right down to the two scousers who I actually know.
There is
some cracking dialogue too: "You are what you owe" and "Its a
dog eat
dog world and I've got bigger teeth than you" spring to mind.
The
subtitled scene in the pub is a scream - even though I
hate
southeners and especially cockneys. Great film and a stunning
directoral debut from Guy Richie- if only for technique. I went
to see
it with me mate Tom and we got off our faces in the boozer
and
talked about the crack all night - its that kind of film.
Really.
