Re: RARA-AVIS: Angie hit back on TV

Fri, 4 Sep 1998 10:19:41 EDT For what it's worth, Angie Dickinson starred in "Policewoman," a TV series
that ran in the 70s, in which she played a detective considered "hard" for
those times who used her considerable sexual appeal to great advantage. (It
wasn't a good series, but it retains a certain cultural fascination.) It
crossed my mind when I first saw De Palma's "Dressed to Kill" that he was
deliberately subverting her tough television persona by making her the almost
unbearably helpless victim. Many feminists got pretty mad at De Palma, but
they've never been known for their sense of irony, let alone humor.
