Thu, 3 Sep 1998 20:27:38 -0500 (CDT) In pursuit of a "Spencer Tracy kill" reference, James Rogers found the
basic info about _The Last Mile_ as film: "It has been filmed twice,
neither time with
Spencer Tracy. The setting of the film is on death row in prison and the
action appears to involve a prison break."

Can't add much, except that the main character is known as "Killer Mears,"
and leads in the takeover of the death row cell-block. Description doesn't
mention an attempted break. Preston Foster was Mears in the first (1932);
since Foster is not listed first in the acting credits, I would suppose
that Mears is not really the main protagonist of the film.

At any rate, the allusion certainly doesn't fit Tracy's later career in
film--which is why, I suppose, we wonder about it in the 1990s.
