RARA-AVIS: Re: Big Book, Movies, The Return of Charlie Morrell

Fri, 28 Aug 1998 11:16:17 -0500 The Big Book of Noir. Right, it's on the list, Etienne...

And at the risk of turning this site into Dorothy L, here's another
shameless plug. Tigger, my site has a list of private eye films (the URL's
down there somewhere) It's not as complete as IMDB, but it has a few
different ones. And as anyone on this list will gladly tell you (myself
included), just because it's a private eye, doesn't mean it's
hardboiled...but it's another resource for you...

And I've just been informed that a sequel to Alex Abella's The Killing of
the Saints (1991) has finally shown up. It's called Dead of Night. Once
again, Cuban-born LA private eye Charlie Morrell gets to tangle with things
that go bump in the night....I really liked the first book, and I'm not
usually a big fan of these supernatural/hardboiled hybrids (although I did
like Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg, and those Cast a Deadly Spell TV
movies...), but I really liked Killing of the Saints. Anyone else read it?

And Jim, I'm in awe. I don't know anyone who's ever seen a copy of The
Hard-Boiled Omnibus, which must be the equivalent of the Dead Sea Scrolls
for members of this list....(great post, by the way!)
