RARA-AVIS: The Case of the Missing Peter Walker

Kevin Smith (kvnsmith@colba.net)
Fri, 21 Aug 1998 08:41:30 -0500 Since I'm the one that told him to join the list, I guess I should spill
the beans...our Peter Walker is a social worker from Liverpool (lives up
the street from Penny Lane), and a contributor to Crime Time, as well as,
ahem, my particular favorite waste of time, The Thrilling Detective Web
Site. As far as I know, he's still on vacation. He will, however, be
hitting this side of the pond in October, visiting the colonies, and all
that....(actually, he'll probably be buying up all the books in the Big
Apple...retailers should probably order extra stock).

By the way, the new CrimeTime is out. It's a British crime mag, now
published as a digest-sized paperback, and the focuss is usually on the
more hardboiled side of things. Think of the late Armchair Detective with
balls. Peter has an interview with Eddie Bunker in it, and a few reveiws,
and our own Eddie Duggan has an article on David Goodis. The new format,
though, isn't as funky-looking as the old one, which was a regular-sized
magazine jammed full of illustrations and sidebars. Then again, it now has
fiction, in the form of a couple of short stories and excerpts, including
stuff by James Sallis and Steven Saylor. I forget, offhand, what their
Crime Time's URL is, but it's listed on my site. It's a great mag, and I'm
thinking of finally subscribing to it, instead of relying on photocopies
from Pete.

Oh, and that Pete, he's a nice guy. Really. I'm sure that long list of
criminal charges is just a mistake....
