Yes, I've read Susanna Moore's "In the Cut," but it's been more than
three years. Mark might be right that it tried too hard to be shocking;
I can recall only the sexual elements of the novel, now. For what it's
worth, in my review then, I wrote that the book "is as much about signs
and language as it is about sex and murder. . . . Moore deftly weaves
together her narrator's pre-novel personal life, her sexual fantasies,
her encounters with (NYPD detective) Malloy and entries from her
dictionary of New York slang. ''In the Cut'' is not for faint-hearted
readers; the steamy sex of the novel almost obscures the murder plot,
but Moore pulls off a shocking ending that is both satisfying and
ironic."

As you can tell, I enjoyed the novel for several reasons, but even then
had the same reservations as Mark. Still recommended, though, as a quick
read.
