<<or Archer as part of a couple, or McGee as a dad, or
even a grand dad.>>

MgGee was indeed a dad...remember the mysterious cats made out of pipe
cleaners that someone kept leaving in his boat? As to Archer, given how
Macdonald worked, I doubt that it would have made much difference - we
never know anything about Archer except that he was married a long time
ago, was in the war, has no friends, and is pretty depressed.

By the way, thanks for the reference to your web site. I'll check what I
have against this list. That is, provided I can find what I have - no
easy task with so many books put away. Has anyone found that creating a
database of books is the most boring thing in the world? Twice I've
ended up reading the books that I was supposed to be entering. Instead
of a database, I ended up with a larger "to be read" pile and another
modest pile of books to discard. At least with recorded music you can
put the record on and continue entering data.
