Hornsby's Maggie MacGowan is a video journalist, involved with
an LAPD cop.
Hornsby's writing is sexy and surprisingly tough. each
subsequent novel is
increasingly rich. best is probably 77th St Requiem, the fourth
in the
series. as a female author, she is concerned with her
character's evolving
relationship, but certainly no more so than say, Parker's
Spenser. but that
bit of humanity is probably enough to exclude her from the
ranks of the truly
hardboiled.
Hornsby teaches history at Long Beach State. heard that she
recently fell
victim to the mid-list author syndrome. if she is unable to
land her series
elsewhere, it would be a loss.
