It's enough to make one wonder about the reality of his or
her existence.
Anyway, I'm David Harvey, a computer journalist by trade and
a fiction
writer by craft.
I was all but thesis on a joint MA in creative writing and
English
literature
when I jumped off the ivory tower and into the fray. While I
haven't written
any
hardboiled literature, yet, I do have an idea for what I
think'll be a
doozy. I'm hoping
to hone my sense of the genre here.
As for my critical sensibilities, I hate to have to say it,
but I find
deconstructionism/post-structuralism
along with a healthy dose of Marxist theory to be quite
useful in teasing
out information from the text.
As for hardboiled stuff, I've always loved this stuff, and
I've read through
a fair amount of writers in the genre.
I suppose I'm most attracted to the most desparate, meanest
of the lot. I've
just discovered Willeford and I am loving him.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and to having
some great
discussions, and
learning about more really good books.
Thanks for having me in your club,
David Harvey
