I noticed Peter Walker mentioned one of Sebastian Japrisot's novels, which
I haven't read yet. (It's sitting on my shelf, however.) But no matter what
the list might end up reading, and for those who might be interested, I
have read "The Sleeping-Car Murders" and "Trap for Cinderella." The former
reminds me of a Maigret mystery and is interesting, but the latter is very
good and would appeal to members of this list. The sense of inevitable doom
(? depends on whether you root for or against the narrator) that increases
with each chapter reminds me a bit of what James M. Cain managed in "Double
Indemnity" and "The Postman Rings Twice." -- Duane
