RARA-AVIS: Dennis Lehane at the CBA

Fri, 19 Jun 1998 18:57:28 -0400 (EDT) I got a free pass to the CBA (the Canadian Bookseller's Association)
show this year and went down this afternoon in the hopes of getting
lots of free books. I got four or five, including a signed bound
galley proof of Lehane's new one, _Gone, Baby, Gone_.

I didn't chat with him much - I was frazzled from a long walk under a
hot sun to get there, and there was a line-up - but I told him I'd
read all three of his books and while I really liked the first two, I
didn't think too much of the second. He said he'd heard that from
readers. I said I thought it was too schticky. He handed me the book
and said, "Welcome back to hell."

A few minutes later I went back and scribbled the RARA-AVIS URL on the
back of my card and gave it to him, and said he had a number of fans
on the list. He didn't seem to know exactly what it meant, but maybe
he'll turn up.
