There are five "Megillas" in The Old Testament: Ruth, Esther, Song of Songs,
Ecclesiastes and Lamentations. Perhaps because of the high boredom factor
perceived by young American Jews in Sunday school poring over these texts,
the phrase "the whole Megilla" came to mean any long drawn out story.
