RARA-AVIS: criticism

Levin, Doug (DLEVIN@DIRECTIMPACT.COM)
Fri, 12 Jun 1998 17:41:37 -0400 As Mario Taboada has brought up Todorov and Frye, I am reminded that
Fredric Jameson writes on Chandler (at least twice, I think--though not
always successfully) and on nostalgia/noir (e.g., Blue Velvet). Any
opinions on those articles? What other big academic guns have written
on the hardboiled and the crime novel?

Also, I would be curious about hearing about detectives who don't fit
Professor Z's jungian analysis. Titles and names of asshole detectives
who are on the take, who best criminals by committing more horrid
crimes, who steal from the poor and vulnerable and keep it? That sounds
like fun reading to me.
