RARA-AVIS: question

michael david sharp (msharp@umich.edu)
Thu, 11 Jun 1998 15:34:13 -0400 (EDT) OK, I was wondering if someone can explain the meaning of a comic I have
sitting in front of me. It's a *Sylvia* comic, by Nicole Hollander, two
"panels" -- the first panel shows a man and woman in bed and the man asks
"I suppose you fantasize about Robert Redford or maybe k.d. lang?" and in
the next panel, she replies "In our most intimate moments, I long for Ross
MacDonald and Raymond Chandler," to which he replies "I don't want to hear
it." Now, does this mean she'd rather be reading a mystery than sleeping
w/ this guy, or that she'd rather have a more masculine "tough guy," or
does it mean it would take a detective to find his penis, or what?
Something else? Thanks for your help, Michael
