I am almost sure that James Lee Burke recorded some of his own books,
though I haven't heard them myself (in fact, I have never heard *any*
books on tape, which probably makes me a cantankerous dinosaur). I did
attend a lecture by him a few years ago and I was very favorably
impressed; he is very articulate and wry, and his eyes have the spark of
intelligence and alertness.
