When I was a political fundraiser in Los Angeles ('77 - '86), I lived
mid-Wilshire (near a lot of bars in the BARFLY montage) and ate frequently
at PACIFIC DINING CAR as it was very close to my office. It's as good as
Ellroy states. Been around forever. A favorite of oldtime politicos. My
boss, at the time, a bigtime boozy broad fundraised for Nixon et al. During
that time, I was also a member of the Guardian Angels and patrolled mostly
mid-Wilsire and occasionally South Central. That whole period of my life is
rather Ellroy-esque. It hasn't stopped in some ways. The man I've been
dating (just a short while) just hit me up for $4K. Right. He's been
embezzling from his company. Scrambling to cover his tracks. I'm cutting him
loose. No Ponzi's for me.
