I'm not familiar with Barre, but I'll have to check him out.

I agree that Sallis is very good. I first discovered his work during a trip
to New Orleans 3-4 years ago, when I stumbled across a signed copy of one
of his Lew Griffin novels in a small bookstore in the Garden District. (I
wish I could remember the name of that place...)

Since then, I've always been very pleased with each Sallis novel I've read.
