RARA-AVIS: The Long Goodbye

think that I'm most impressed with The Long Goodbye.

The list has divided into camps before about that novel...and the quirky
Altman film derived from it.

Personally, I'm with you, but it's a fan's novel--the one where the plot
relaxes even more than usual, characters get more "breathing space," and
the Chandler vision emerges through Marlowe's musings. Someday Bill or
someone is going to compile a book of the best hard-boiled quotations, and
it's going to have plenty of sentences from The Long Goodbye.
