struck by this accidental juxtaposition:

It reminded me that my introduction to Goodis' "Black Pudding" came via
a brilliant cable television adaptation a few years ago in the second
series of Showtime's "Fallen Angels." The story was reset in the
shadowy world of 1950's gay subculture, and starred Brendan Fraser (seen
recently as George of the Jungle) as the professional killer who is
contracted to kill his lover. Fraser was stunning as a man who, while
physically beautiful outside, is essentially dead inside. A perfect
Goodis character.

The first series of "Fallen Angels" was released on video, and is still
available in some of the better rental stores--get it, and be sure to
see Tom Hanks' fantastic adaptation of Chandler's "I'll Be Waiting,"
where he also plays a perfectly creepy villian. Showtime has never
released the second series, and that's a real shame; did anyone on the
list record them when they were first on?
