I consider myself a minor fan of Prather and have many of his Shell
Scott paperbacks. While he clearly is no Dostoyevsky, his unpretentious
and exciting adventures are great fun to read. No great depth, no
"issues" (thank God!), funny dialogue, plenty of action, a clear-cut
distinction between good and bad guys, and between guys and gals, and
between good and bad gals, and books are not too long. There are many
worse ways of spending a lazy weekend afternoon at the beach...

How about Michael Avallone? Is he alive? Please forgive these impromptu
connections of a tired brain...
