There's a key word: subtle. EL's prose is very flat, purposely, I think.
That flatness works great. As for the "bloated" assertion, I'm sorry, but
i don't see how anyone can come to that conclusion at all. Then again, I
guess it's okay to not like EL, if that's not for you, Doug. It took me a
long time to finally sit down and try one of his. It was Out of Sight,
which then led me to Bandits. Both are excellent. I also read the
thinner, earlier crime books, like The Switch. Those move a lot faster,
and are fine. Didn't care for Touch too much. Riding the Rap was a good
one. Oh, I'll stop now. Could go on for a while on Dutch.
