RARA-AVIS: Film Alert and Highsmith

Tue, 14 Apr 1998 09:04:06 -0400 Sunday's New York Times Arts & Entertainment section (p.11-12) has an
article on Highsmith and adaptations of her films. There will be a nine
film series at the Museum of Modern Art, including a documentary about
the author. The article puts her total at 22 novels, seven story
collections, one children's book, one how-to-write book. The story and
film fest follow on the heels of the disposition of her estate--which
went to Yaddo writer's colony.

After some disappointing noir/thriller films it seems, let me recommend
_Wild Things_ as an over-the-top, fun, and unlikely crime thriller.
It's got that Florida/swamp sub-genre thing going. It's an
unpretentious film that knows what it wants to do and does it pretty
well. Check it out, I say.
