I'm reading one of Old School Books' titles now -- CORNER BOY -- and
looking up their Web site was one of my To-Do tasks for this week.

I'm not sure that I would describe this novel, by Herbert Simmons, as
hard-boiled, but it's well-written and is a very good depiction of a type
of criminal subculture. I'll definitely look for Simmons' other novel --
PORTRAIT OF A MAN WALKING ON EGGSHELLS -- and other Old School Books when I
finish this novel.--Duane

My 2 cents:
OLD SCHOOL BOOKS - http://www.wwnorton.com/osb/behind.htm
devoted to Black American authors
NO EXIT PRESS - UK- http://www.noexitpress.demon.co.uk
mix of well known American authors and more confidential ones
- by the way, they have a page about the Chinese HB writer mentioned in
rara-Avis recently, Wang Shuo and one of his books at:
http://www.noexitpress.demon.co.uk/neshou.htm
GALLIMARD- CANADA - http://www.gallimard-mtl.com/seriesn.html
good selection of novelties, with comments, published in French by
Gallimard
