I'm sure that Richard Prather knew he was joking when he wrote the Shell
Scott stories; the humor is broad enough to embarrass Mel Brooks. And some
people -- well, at least S.J. Perelman -- found Dan Turner funny in the
1930s. I don't think that we had to wait 60 years to see the humor in those
stories.
