I read O'Hara's Hope of Heaven some 15 years ago. If memory serves me right,
it's about a novelist or playwright who becomes a successful Hollywood
screenwriter in the 30's, falls in love with a wonderful girl, but loses her
due to tragic events regarding her brother, I believe.

Very evocative of time and place, and also quite sad. After all these years,
it's stuck with me.
