RARA-AVIS: RE: HB's Western Cousin

favorite reference, Silver and Ward's Film Noir, mentions two titles,
Pursued (1947) and Blood on the Moon (1948) as being "prime examples of
hybrid noir westerns," in large part because of the presence of Robert
Mitchum. Anyone seen either?

I seem to remember that "Bad Day at Black Rock" (1955), with Spencer Tracy,
had the claustrophobic feel I associate with noir. Ernest Borgnine has a
suitably nasty role in it.

The flip side, of course, is noir films with Western settings, such as
"Touch of Evil" and "Ride the Pink Horse." Such bad towns in the open
spaces.
