I haven't read much Gault, but what I have read is excellent.
And,
since others on the list are in the process of reading _The
Maltese
Falcon_, it might be worth mentioning that Gault's second novel
_The
Bloody Bokhara_ (1952) is a wonderful _Falcon_ pastiche.
