Sun, 7 Dec 1997 15:42:55 EST philippe garnier was always a big fan of goodis, back to his days at Fren=
ch
Rock Magazine: Rock & Folk, which to this day is a very reliable rock
magazine, close to NME in Uk (their studies of hard boiled/noir books ar=
e
always very interesting)...By the way i believe Garnier' s son is techno=
god
Laurent Garnier, very popular in the dance scene everywhere, especially =
in
UK...which brings me to rock and some of the postings that have delt wit=
h that
but never mentioned the whole sub-genre called goth with many bands sinc=
e the
early 80's and of course the whole group of 'moody players' Nick Cave,
Einsturzende Neubauten, Gun Club, Tindersticks, Congo Norvell (check the=
ir new
cd just released a week ago in the US), Crime and City Solution (of Wim
Wenders fame), Noir D=E9sir in France, Dirty Three and Hugo Race in Aust=
ralia
etc...etc...who all pertain to what we could call 'shades of noir'...The=
last
release of Nick Cave, The Boatman's Call (one of the most glorious relea=
ses of
the year by a million miles), is right at the center of the current stri=
ng on
Goodis himself...
Checking reviews of these groups in the excellent Rough Guide Rock Antho=
logy,
will give ample explenations and ideas...
