RE: RARA-AVIS: Auster and Lethem

Wed, 26 Nov 1997 10:57:55 -0500 I quite enjoyed Auster's trilogy when I read it about 10 years ago,
particularly since I was also reading quite a bit of Ross MacDonald and
Raymond Chandler at the time. I'm sure I've forgotten some of its
intricacies since then, and they deserve a re-reading.

The first of the trilogy has been adapted into the graphic novel format
as part of a series called, I think, Neon Lit. It's done in a sort of
post-modern, MAUS-type graphic style.

Auster has a recent memoir about his development as a writer. I think it
includes the pseuodononymous and more traditional detective novel he
published before writing the New York Trilogy. Has anyone read this?

I haven't read Lethem's novel, but I've had it recommended. The same
person, however, said Lethem's follow-up efforts didn't equal his
hard-boiled cyperpunk novel.
