RARA-AVIS: Appropriate subjects for the list

Tue, 25 Nov 1997 13:15:18 +0000 I commend Bill Denton for being strict in keeping the list to its stated
subject matter. For a bad example of what can happen when people use
public forums as generic "chat rooms", look at the current state of
Usenet groups, most of which have become public spaces for spam, shills,
kooks, irrelevant discussions, insults, and so on. And let's not forget
that the reason we enjoy a knowledgeable list that attracts good people
is *precisely* its clear focus and the absence of time-wasting and
extraneous topics.

Which is why I won't tell you about the black bear I ran into early this
morning, as I was clearing some brush on my land...

On the pile of mysteries to be read soon, I have a Constantine, a couple
of novels by Paco Ignacio Taibo II (brought to me by a Mexican friend
who swears by this author), and a whole slew of novels by George Harmon
Coxe, bought for a couple dollars at an auction. And the (apparently)
historical novel "The Flames of Time" by the great old pulpster Baynard
Kendrick. Has anyone read this?

Regards,

Mario Taboada
