"Welcome to rara-avis, the mailing list devoted to the discussion of
hardboiled fiction." This list is for the disucssion of hardboiled
fiction, and things that relate to it. If there's a clear relation,
excellent. If there's a tenuous connection, OK, I'll grant some
latitude, but I won't let things go too far. I've seen a number of
lists destroyed by people talking about their cars, children, and
other irrelevant things. This is is not a pen-pal list for people
with a common interest. Feel free to discuss anything you like in
personal mail, but please keep fairly close to hardboiled fiction
here.

Certainly.

If anyone doesn't like the rules, they can flame me in private mail.
I don't like meta-commentary on mailing lists, although I did want to
get this out.

Now, I'm off to finished my current book so I can start _The Maltese
Falcon_. I think it's been about four years since I last read it.
