living in the states and raised in france after the ww2 war....until 69) i
also share the very strong connection between jazz and film noir/serie noire
on both sides of the atlantic....and i'm in fact reading now a jean-claude
izzi book called 'chourmo' whose leading character ( an ex-cop in
marseilles) makes numerous references to jazz tunes and moods...
i should also mention to the whole gang an Lp i picked up in 1980 by Ran
Blake who used to be part of the New England Conservatory. The Album was
called Film Noir and, as Ran says in the notes, "the music for this album is
performed by members of the Third Stream Department of the NE
Conservatorywith guests John Heiss and Ted Curson"
they took Spiral Staircase, Eve, Garden of Delight, Key Largo, Pinky,
Streetcar Named Desire, Touch of Evil, Le Boucher, The Pawnbroker, Doktor
Mabuse, & Blue Gardenia and weaved (or re-weaved) music for these and the
effect is pretty stunning as Amdrew Sarris says in the notes printed on the
back of the LP (Lp not Cd....they were not even invented then....): "His (Ran
Blake) music is a fitting, worthy tribute to this very highly developed
cinematic taste".
I have no idea if this stuff is still available but if you can get hold of
it...it may even be a cd now...
